Footnote: Yoo Youngkyo is a contemporary Korean sculptor, celebrated for his meditative and minimalist approach to sculpture. Working chiefly in granite or marble and combining both abstract and organic forms, Youngkyo’s works explore universal human emotions and familial bonds. Youngkyo has stated that he aims to create simplistic forms so that the public may view his works “with a feeling of ease in their heart”. Born in 1946 in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea, Youngkyo trained as a sculptor at Hongik University before moving to Rome, where he attended the Department of Plastic Arts of the Accademia di Belle Arti. He has exhibited extensively, both independently and collectively, throughout South Korea and Europe, and has been the recipient of numerous accolades.
