Provenance: Acquired by the vendor directly from the artist Other Notes: Born in Nigeria, Sokari Douglas Camp CBE, is a London-based sculptor who works predominantly in steel. Her sculptures are inspired by her Nigerian heritage and are often created in response to contemporary international issues. In her works, Camp draws upon forms derived from her native Kalabari customs - including masquerades, textiles and dances. Having graduated from the Royal College of Art, Camp has exhibited her sculptures in more than forty solo shows worldwide. She has won many commissions for public memorial sculptures. In 2003, her sculpture, 'No-o-war-r No-o-war-r', was shortlisted for Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth. Camp is particularly known for her sculpture in the form of a full-scale replica of a Nigerian steel bus, created in 2006 as a monument to the late Nigerian author and activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa.
