Portrait of William Brummell of Wivenhoe (1777-1853) half-length in a wooded landscape signed lower left 'RC /17--' and inscribed with the identity of the sitter on the reverse oil on canvas, unlined 23 x 19.5cm

Condition report: Oil on canvas which is unlined. There are minor undulations across the surface and stretcher bar marks. The paint layer has a general network of age cracks, some of them are slightly raised and there are a few small losses. Old retouching present in the sitter's arm and one touch in his hair, the retouchings have darkened. The varnish is slightly yellowed and glossy. Chips to the frame and wear to the gilding.
