About this lot

Description

c1940, the cream coloured 'sterile' dial, 25mm diameter with black Arabic numerals, (originally) luminous hands and hour dots, subsidiary seconds register at 6 o'clock and chemin de fer chapter ring, monogram only signed 17 jewel mechanical crown wind movement, case, 32mm diameter, verso screw down and marked with the pheon and stamped 'A.T.P. 66661', to a (probably) aftermarket unsigned 'Bonklip' or 'Krementz' style infinitely adjustable steel link bracelet

Footnote: Unsigned - so called 'sterile' - dials were deliberately made by some watch manufacturers during WWII and were particularly important for watches issued to 'behind enemy lines' military personnel. A watch's name might give away the nationality of the owner, so sterile dials could give the watch - and the owner - some precious anonymity. Movements, too, were very often unsigned or just marked with a manufacturer's initials or trademarks, as with this example. 'A.T.P.' refers to 'Army Time Piece' or 'Army Trade Pattern', with the 5-digit number being the watch's serial number.
