Ten of the 47 runners came down at the first fence at the Grand National in 1952: Early Mist, Golden Surprise, Hal's Venture, Rocket V, Russian Hero, St Kathleen II, Dominick's Bar, Cardinal Error, Irish Lizard and Court Painter (refused and unseated rider). The race was won by an Aintree debutant, Teal, ridden by Arthur Thompson.



Condition report:

Framed 67.5 x 105cm

Oil on canvas which is unlined. The canvas tension is slightly slack and there are minor undulations across the surface. The paint layer is in a good, stable condition overall. The painting has a thin varnish layer present. In some areas a slight opaque bloom has started to form across the surface. There is a layer of surface dirt present including brown stains and fly spots.
