Luigi P Renault (Italian, 1845-1910) Vista de la Real Inglesa nombrada San Vicente fondeada cerca de las Islas de Bayona (View of the Royal English Saint Vincent anchored near the islands of Bayonne) inscribed lower left "Por Nicanor de Buenaga y Garmury" and lower right "En Vigo a 20 de Febro. de 1833" gouache, in a cushion-moulded frame with gold-painted paterae terminals 40 x 54cm (16 x 21in)
Other Notes: Luigi Renault was an Italian ship portraitist who worked in Leghorn during the last half of the 19th Century. He was also appointed as the official marine artist to King Victor Emanuel. Early in his life he started to paint ships, and was apparently trained by his father, Michele Renault (fl. 1840-68), who was a Ship Portrait Artist. Luigi Renault lived and worked in Trieste and Leghorn - both in Italy.
Slight discolouration to the background sky and a little foxing. Paper slightly crinkled under glass.
