the break arch case with folding handle and rectangular brass scale fret side panels, the silvered scroll engraved 7inch dial signed ‘Jas Tregent, Watchmaker to the Prince of Wales, London’, with strike/silent to the arch and date aperture below, twin fusee movement signed to the backplate, on a stepped base with block feet 38cm high (with handle folded), 26cm wide; with a mahogany wall bracket, 30cm high (drawer to one side, some old wear and tear).Footnote: James Tregent is recorded in Britten's "Old Clocks and Watches & Their Makers" as working in London at 35 Strand in 1775 and then at 29 Cranborne Street, Leicester Square by 1780.Condition report: Currently ticking. The case with old repairs and presumably stained mahogany veneers. Shrinkage cracks to top (see photos).Private deceased estate sale.
