Description

English School, circa 1720 Portrait of Lady Cole, half-length, in a blue dress and a pink shawl inscribed upper left "Lady Cole" oil on canvas, in a painted feigned oval 74 x 61cm (29 x 24in)
Provenance: Mawley Hall, Shropshire
Oil on canvas which has been lined, the tension is good and the picture is in plane. The paint layer is stable. There are numerous areas of retouching which are well matched to the original but matte in some areas. The varnish is thick, yellowed and matte. The frame is in a good condition with a marble effect painted finish and a gilded sight edge.
