Description

English School, 19th Century A Farmer with a prize ram, a bay pony and a sheep dog before a pen of sheep dated "1806" lower right oil on canvas 56 x 72cm (22 x 28in)
Other Notes: A traditional attribution to John Ferneley (1782-1860) may be considered.
Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas tension is slightly slack and there are numerous old deformations across the surface. The paint layer has impact cracks and a network of age cracks, some of which are raised. There are numerous areas of retouching across the surface which are slightly mismatched to the original but acceptable. The varnish is clear and semi-glossy. The frame is in a good condition.
