English Provincial School, late 18th Century Portrait of a small girl in a cream dress with pink bows and a ribbon decorated bonnet and a coral necklace, holding a sprig of violets oil on canvas, in a carved wooden frame 64.50 x 57.50cm (25 x 22in)

Oil on canvas which has been reinforced at the edges with new canvas (strip-lined). There is a hole in the canvas to the right of the sitter with associated paint loss. The paint layer is stable overall. There is extensive retouching across the surface including a scumble over the sky which appears uneven and dark under ultraviolet light. The varnish is clear and matte. There are some losses to finish on the frame.
