Circle of Louis-Léopold Boilly, (French, 1761-1845) Portrait of a young lady, head and shoulders, wearing gold earrings, her hair in ringlets, in an Empire-line cream dress and grey shawl oil on canvas, in a period Empire style frame 44 x 36cm (17 x 14in)

Oil on canvas which has an early lining. The canvas is in plane with good tension. The paint layer is stable. There are numerous old damages which have been retouched, the retouchings are fairly matched to the original. The varnish is even, semi-matte and slightly yellowed. The frame has numerous chips and losses to the gilding but is sound.
