About this lot

Description

The Wayside inn with a woman doing washing outside, a greyhound and a grey horse beside her oil on panel, unframed 25.5 x 35cm

Condition report: Oil on panel. There is some damage to the panel along the lower edge. The paint layer is thinly painted and worn in several areas, although stable and secure. There is retouching in the darker paint passages covering wear and abrasion. The varnish is even, glossy and very yellowed. The panel was constructed from a horizontal oak board. Analysis of the tree-ring sequence from this provided a date for the board. This board was derived from a tree sourced from the eastern Baltic area of Europe. The tree-ring dating result suggests that this panel dates from the period between 1645 and c. 1660. A full dendrochronology report is available upon request.
