One of the most iconic men's watches from the Maison, the Roadster made its debut in 2001 and is Cartier's elegant take on the world of cars. As its name suggests, its design is heavily influenced by the sports cars of the 1950s and 1960s. An unusual feature is the lens above the date window. Its unique shape recalls a curved car windshield. Carrying on the automobile inspiration is the winding crown. Some say the crown mimics the look of a car radiator while others claim it's a tribute to wheels. The dials of the early models were clearly influenced by the speedometer of the Porsche 356 Speedster. Cartier later changed the dials to be more in line with their other watches, including a return to the use of their signature Roman numerals as in this example. Although the Roadster is no longer in production, given its bold design and instantly recognisable silhouette they are still an extremely sought after and classic timepiece.
