Description

BIBLE, Matthews version combining the Tyndale and Coverdale translations, edited by John Rogers under the pseudonym ‘Thomas Matthew’. [The Byble, London: Jhon Daye and William Seres, 1549], c.28 x 19cm, double column, with woodcut text illustrations, lacking some prelim leaves, main title, D1, D5, D6 of Genesis, E3, II1 in Third Part, 3A1 in Apocrypha, NT title, Aa1, 4 leaves of Epistles, and lacks all after T5 of Revelation; several other leaves damaged / torn with losses. All rather worn, soiled and time stained throughout; corners rounded, some edges chipped, binding broken. Sold ‘as is’ with all faults. Ref. Herbert 74; STC 2078. Also known as the ‘Bug Bible,’ through the rendering ‘bugges’ in Ps. xci. 5.
