About this lot

Description

Austro-Venetian School, circa 1800 A Capriccio quayside scene with a Baroque church, a gateway and a palace beyond oil on board in a veneered walnut frame 23 x 23cm (9 x 9in)
Provenance: The late Sir Richard Parsons (1928-2016)
Oil on a thin piece of board which has a convex warp due to being poorly supported in the frame. The corners of the board are damaged. At the centre of the top edge are old pin holes which have caused paint loss. The paint layers are thinly applied and slightly worn in areas. There are scattered retouchings across the surface. The varnish is yellowed and dull. The veneer on the frame is lost in many areas and where it does remain is dry and lifting.
