About this lot

Description

Attributed to Thomas van Apshoven (Dutch, 1622-1664) A gentleman drinking wine, whilst a maid shucks oysters in an interior oil on copper 16 x 19cm (6 x 7in)
Provenance: From a Norfolk country house
There is a small hole in the copper in the gentleman's fur coat. Inventory No. 175 to the frame. A little scuffing along the lower edge. Oil on a metal support (probably copper). The painting is held in the frame with a wooden backboard. The metal support has a few undulations and deformations. The paint layer is stable and secure and appears in a good condition. The varnish is slightly yellowed and dull with numerous accretions and a dirt layer. The frame has a few small losses to the gilded surface.
