Description

Attributed to Jacomo Victors (Dutch, 1640-1705) A Sicilian Buttercup cockerel with a Brabanter hen and chicks in a farmyard oil on canvas 70.50 x 61.50cm (27 x 24in)
Provenance: Mawley Hall, Shropshire Both birds are typical of the 17th Century period and interestingly, they are not a matched or breeding pair. We are grateful to Ivor Parrish for his assistance with the catalogue entry.
Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas tension is good and the picture is in plane. There are small damages to the paint layer. There are retouchings which are slightly darkened. There are light scuffs and abrasion. The varnish is thick, glossy and yellowed. The frame has wear and abrasion to the gilding.
