Provenance:
By repute, purchased on a visit to Ditchling, Sussex, in the early 1930s by Father Francis Bartlett, later Monsignor Bartlett, of Westminster Cathedral as a present for the present vendor's parents.

The Guild of St Joseph & St Dominic in Ditchling, Sussex was a Roman Catholic Arts and Crafts community based on a medieval guild established in 1921 by Eric Gill, his assistant Joseph Cribb, Hilary Pepler and Edward Johnston.
