Description

An Art Deco aquamarine brooch with diamond and demantoid garnet highlights, the octagonal mixed cut very pale aquamarine, horizontally claw set with trios of small round cut stones - two diamonds and a demantoid - millegrain collet set at the cardinal points, geometric cage mount and simple pin clasp, unmarked white and yellow metal, length 3.2cm; in original, fitted buff leather case, gold-tooled on the outside 'AJ' and inside 'Mother, with love from Pamela, June 3rd'
Provenance: A present, circa 1920, from Pamela Margaret Jekyll, 1889-1943, (a niece of the garden designer and plantswoman, Gertrude Jekyll) to her mother, Agnes Jekyll, 1861-1937, née Graham - a writer, artist and muse to the painter Burne-Jones; thence by descent
