Condition report:

Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas tension is stiff and the picture is in plane. An old tear in the jacket has been repaired, filled and retouched. Overpaint has been used in a few areas of the background which now appear slightly dark compared to the original. Overall the paint layer is in a very good condition. There is a network of age cracks across the surface. The cracks have moved through to the varnish layer. Because the varnish is aged and brittle the cracks appear more apparent. There is some white material forming in the cracks of the face. There is a layer of surface dirt and some white accretions across the surface.
