Provenance:
Cheffins, Cambridge, 17th June 2015, lot 871

Footnote:

The present paintings are after the originals by Caspar Netscher believed to have been destroyed by Allied bombing in Dresden in 1945.

Condition report:

Framed 36 x 30.5cm

The paintings are executed in oil on a metal support. The metal sheets have minor undulations but are generally in plane and in a good condition. The paint layers have suffered minor losses on both works but are stable overall. The picture with the musician has been partially cleaned to remove the varnish, this has caused wear to the paint layer in some areas. The scene with the physician has a thick layer of varnish which is even, glossy and slightly yellowed. There are small areas of overpaint in localised areas.
