About this lot

Description

each with a central rubover set oval cabochon grey star sapphire, displaying asterism under strong light, approximately 8.8 x 7.7mm, flanked by a rubover set baguette cut diamond, estimated total approximate weight 0.15ct, peg and scroll fittings, unmarked white metal, tested as platinum, weight 5.4g

Footnote: The optical phenomenon responsible for the sapphire’s shimmering rays is called asterism, from the Latin word astrum, meaning “star.” Asterism occurs when light reflects from small needle-like inclusions within the stone. The ‘star’ appears to move over the surface of the stone when either the stone or the light source is moved.
