Description

A pair of Japanese Arita porcelain bottle vases, Edo period, early 18th century, painted in underglaze blue with pine, prunus and bamboo in ogival cartouches, overpainted in coloured enamels, with half-mons between lappet and key borders, with later oxidised European metal rim mounts, 25cm high (2)
Provenance: Mawley Hall, Shropshire
One vase with firing fault to footrim and the neck with glaze punch with subsequent glaze crack. the body with small flaking to the enamel and another similar. The second vase with two discoloured body cracks. Crack from the lower neck to the footrim.
