Description

A pair of 20th century silver Armada dishes, by William Comyns & Sons, London 1958, the flared lips with display hallmarks, in a black leather and gold tooled presentation case, 8ozt gross (2) 12 x 12cm (5 x 5in)
Other Notes: Silver taken from the Spanish Armada was used to make a banqueting service for Sir Christopher Harris during the reign of Elizabeth I. During the Civil War the service was buried on Dartmoor to avoid seizure by the Parliamentary troops. The service was discovered early in the 20th century when a workman put his pick axe through one of the dishes. These dishes are modern copies and have been reproduced from the original design.
