About this lot

Description

A pair 18th century Meissen figures of horse tamers, circa 1750, modelled by Johann Joachim Kandler, one with a Nubian handler, the other with a Turkish handler, both holding the reins of rearing stallions, the bases encrusted with flowers, crossed swords marks in blue, 26cm (10.25in) high (2)
Other Notes: The models are inspired by Guillaume Coustou the elder's famous sculpture of horse tamers, 'Chevau de Marly'. Coustou's sculptures reinvented the colossal Roman marbles in the Piazza Quirinale in Rome.
