Description

A large terracotta head of Bodhisattva, Gandhara region, 3rd or 4th century, the face of ideal proportions with pronounced chin, fine mouth enhanced by a broad wavy moustache below an aquiline nose, almond-shaped eyes with sharp eyelids, arched eyebrows, an urna on the centre, elongated earlobes adorned with pendant lions, wavy hair partly masked by an elaborate hat or turban surmounted by a knot; the head with slight traces of red and brown pigments. 44cm high, with stand.
