Description

A 20th French Limoges porcelain chess set, the pieces picked out in pink and gilt or black and gilt, bishops in jesters caps, pawns as pages; 7cm high king. Provenance: Bought Christie’s sale 3/4/80, lot 6, Ill. p.6.; another chess set - bone china pieces, decorated in black, white and gilt, 7cm high maximum (provenance: Phillips 114, No. 338. Condition report: Limoges chess set has discoloured markings to exteriors with ruoghness to base consistent with age and use. Fading to gilt overall. Other set has wear to the felt bases and some are lose. Fading to gilt. Some disocxloured marks on piece with the queen having a chip to the base anbd one pawn without felt base.
