A 20th century silver 'Armada' dish, by William Comyns & Sons, London 1973, the flared lip with display hallmarks, 21.7ozt 3.50 x 25.50 x 25.50cm (1 x 10 x 10in)
Silver taken from the Spanish Armada was used to make a banqueting service for Sir Christopher Harris during the reign of Elizabeth I. During the Civil War the service was buried on Dartmoor to avoid seizure by the Parliamentary troops. The service was discovered early in the 20th century when a workman put his pick axe through one of the dishes. This modern copy has been reproduced from the original design.
