Description

A 19th century Scottish mahogany longcase Regulator by Reid and Auld Edinburgh no. 1450, with break arch case having quarter pilasters, deadbeat escapement with agate faced pallets, 3 train quarter chiming movement on 8 bells, hour striking on a later gong fitted to the backboard, 14inch dial signed in the arch, slender silvered chapter ring, selection lever above XII, Rococo spandrels, square section steel rod to large bob pendulum, 215cm high. Note: The partnership of Reid and Auld is dated by Brittain to 1806 onwards. The firm specialised in unusual Regulators including Astronomical and long duration. A fine example by these makers is in the National Museum of Scotland.
