Footnote: Other notes: Leonard Pearman was a British genre painter of wildlife. In his realistic portrayals, he often focused on African or Arctic animals set in their natural habitat, including tigers, polar bears, lions, and leopards. Born in 1912 in Birmingham, Pearman served in the Royal Air Force and was shot down during the Second World War, spending three years as a prisoner of war at the infamous Stalag Luft German prison camp, which was immortalized in the film "The Great Escape". After the war, Pearman studied portraiture at the Marlborough School of Art in Chelsea before embarking on his career as an artist.
