Whitton, 'John Tunnard: His Life and Work', Aldershot, Hants, England ; Brookfield, Vt., USA : Scolar Press, 1997, p.165, cat.no.347 Other Notes: Tunnard's record book indicates that the painting was completed in October and sent to the Leger Gallery in November. It was sold by the gallery on the 3.12.44 for 18 gns. Although Tunnard does not give any suggestion as to his reasons for titling the picture 'Brandis', it has been proposed that the title could refer to an important German airbase. We are grateful to Brian Whitton for his kind assistance with this catalogue entry. Undulation in the support at the lower right corner where the signature is. Pin holes at the top corners. The paint layer is in a good condition.  It is most proably onpaper although it has not been examined out of the frame
