Bird, Winter Exhibition , 1983, cat.no27 Edwin John (1905-78), was the fourth son of Augustus John and his first wife, Ida. Between 1931 and 1932, Edwin John enjoyed a moderately successful career as a middleweight boxer, winning eight of his sixteen professional bouts. After retiring from boxing, he became a watercolour artist.
