Provenance: Purchased from the estate of Olive Cook by the present owner Other Notes: The present lot demonstrates the close friendship between the artist, Edward Bawden, and the writer and artist, Olive Cook. When Edward Bawden moved to Saffron Walden following the death of his wife in 1970, he forged a close friendship with Olive Cook who was already living in the town. In the 1980s, they helped to establish the Fry Art Gallery. These two personal drawings show Olive Cook's love of cats. Bawden was very much aware of this and for this reason, he chose to illustrate them in these touching drawings for his very dear friend.
