Description

The Bevan family of Hilston Park, Monmouthshire and the Hon. Caroline E S Norton, A leather-bound album bearing a book-plate and penned inscription 'Joan M C Bevan, Hilston Park, Monmouth 1925' (The Hon. Joan Mary Conyers Norton) containing a large quantity of photographs, ephemera, drawings and autographs relating to the Bevan family and their circle of high society friends. Notable entries include autographs of Lady Ottoline Morrell (Bloomsbury Group patron), Brinsley Ford (House party for Unionist Play Nov 28-29th 1933), Charles and Ada Forestier-Walker, Francis and Penelope Vane-Tempest, David Scott-Moncreiff, hand written poem 'Country Song' by the Hon. David Pax Tennant, dated 17th September 1924, a self-portrait pencil drawing on Savoy Hotel headed paper by Fernando Autori inscribed 'For you, my dearest Mrs Bevan', together with a rare 19th Century pencil and watercolour portrait of early feminist campaigner the Hon. Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton (nee Sheridan, 1808-1877), signed with initials 'F.L.'. The present lot, believed to be unpublished, is accompanied by a signed presentation copy of the 'History of Hilston Park, Monmouthshire, 1293-2011', by Pamela Pugh (pub. 2012). (2)
