'Rock', a poster designed by Hot Grunt for the Last Minute Put Together Boogie Band,, featuring Syd Barrett, also featuring Pink Fairies and Hawkwind at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, Jan 27 1972; together with a live recording CD of the Last Minute Put Together Boogie Band, with Barrett on guitar, recorded Jan 27 1972 and a live recording CD of Hawkwind on the same evening 75 x 49cm (3) On 26 January 1972, The Last Minute Put Together Boogie Band (LMPTBB) - a ‘pick-up’ band, then formed of John ‘Twink’ Alder, Bruce Michael Paine, John 'Honk' Lodge, Jack Monck and Eddie "Guitar" Burns - played a set at King’s College Cellar, Cambridge. Towards the end of the evening, Twink recalls Barrett arriving, on good form and 'ready to jam' - previously a talisman of excess and an emblem of the nihilistic sixties scene since his departure from Pink Floyd in 1968, Barrett had become known as a withdrawn and isolated figure. The following day, Barrett joined the band for three songs during their set at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, alongside the Pink Fairies and Hawkwind. Following the Corn Exchange performance, later that evening, Barrett, Twink and Monck established supergroup ‘STARS’. Though the group played a number of gigs in and around Cambridge, following poor reviews, Barrett ultimately withdrew from the industry altogether. The present lot, a poster advertising the 1972 performance of LMPTBB at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, was designed by Hot Grunt, a Cambridge-based collective of designers - Nick Kavanagh, Gaylene Preston DNZM and production organiser, Andy Dennis. Conspicuously absent from the poster is Syd Barrett’s name. Correspondence reveals that Hot Grunt and concert promoter, Steve Brink, wrestled with the idea of whether to include Barrett on the billing. For fear of unsettling the fragile Barrett, the decision was taken to omit his name from any advertising.
