Robert Wallace Martin for the Martin Brothers, a stoneware spoon warmer, 1881,

glazed in shades of cobalt and green and modelled as a grotesque aquatic creature with a gaping mouth and clasping a shield to its chest, incised marks to underside
15cm high

Provenance: Acquired by the present owner from a private American collection



Condition report:

Examined under UV light, some extensive restoration to shield (which still shows firing? crack through) and plumes below as well as to underside.
