About this lot

Description

Robert Wallace Martin for the Martin Brothers, a large bellied jug, circa 1896,

the salt-glazed stoneware body rising to a fluted rim and modelled in relief with a grotesque animal mask over a mottled ground of tonal green, indistinctly dated and incised 'Martin Bros / London & Southall' to the underside
26.5cm high

Extensive professional restoration, difficult to detect with the naked eye, but a series of repair lines fluoresce under UV light. Some minor fritting to rim.
