Description

Remploy, a mid-century drop-flap drinks trolley, on A-shaped supports and large castors, labelled to underside72 x 42-75 x 73cmConceived at the close of World War II and spearheaded by the British Government under the terms of the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act 1944, the Remploy Group provided ‘sheltered employment’ for veterans of the war. Aspiring to create a safe workplace dedicated to the employment of disabled workers, the first factory opened in Bridgend, Wales, in April 1946. This was followed by a second factory in Salford and another in Birmingham. By 1952, the scheme had expanded into a sprawling network of 90 factories operating across the country and manufacturing a wide range of products including furniture, textiles and electronics.
