Middlesex County Lunatic Asylums in the 19th century, mostly Hanwell Lunatic Asylum. A collection of papers and ephemera, reports and letters, including Home Office replies on a proposed new hospital building, and critique of proposed rules for the Pauper Hospital/Asylum, official committal returns for insane persons, and other general 'lunacy' papers; also an amateur watercolour by C W Clennell, dated August 1866, of the Hanwell Asylum, with text below, 30 x 50cm; and an engraved advertising notice printed in colours 'Middlesex House, Hackney Road, for the Reception of Insane Persons ....
