JONES (Edward) Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards. Note: Jones (1752-1824) was harpist to George, Prince of Wales and upon his accession to the throne in 1820 adopted the title Bardd y Brenin, the King's Bard. "His most important work was in the preservation of traditional Welsh music. He collected and published over 200 traditional melodies. His concern for the protection of Welsh cultural life is also evident in his strong belief in the eisteddfod as a safeguard of Welsh cultural traditions and the purity of the Welsh language."
