Footnote:

In 1803, Sir John Jervis-White-Jervis raised the Somerset Riflemen, a company sized unit, as part of the volunteer movement intended to resist an anticipated French invasion. The depicted site on the Somerset coast is identifiable as Clifton Downs, near Bristol. The tower is Cook’s Folly, Sneyd Park, site of the present Clifton Observatory.
