George Vincent (British, 1796–1831) An extensive wooded river landscape with cottages, cattle and sheep in the foreground oil on panel 63 x 102cm (25 x 40in) Provenance: Possibly acquired from the artist (label on the reverse possibly with his signature and address 26 Newman Street, London); Also on the reverse a label of Thomas Agnew & Sons, no. 4546; Thomas Damant Eaton (1800-1871) of Eaton Hall, Norwich, and by descentThe painting will be in the forthcoming catalogue raisonne on George Vincent. Oil on panel. The paint layer is stable. Retouchings in the sky have lightened and become obvious. There is a large area of retouching around the sheep at the bottom of the picture, areas of which have become glossy. The varnish is even and matte. The frame is in a good condition.
