Description

English School, 17th Century A pair of silver-cased portraits of a Royalist gentleman and a lady (stamped with a single unidentifiable mark), the cases of oval form, flat based with friction fitting somewhat domed covers decorated with an oval wreath of repoussé foliage around central cartouche, each engraved with a personal Coat of Arms oil on copper, a pair (2) 9 x 7 x 2cm (4 x 3 x 1in)
Provenance: The Hall family of Yorkshire and by descent Other Notes: The coats-of-arms on the silver cases cannot be positively identified. The engravers failed to show shading that would have indicated the tinctures.
