Description

Edinburgh – A George III 18th century silver wine funnel,
mark of James Douglas (1785-1795), date letter lacking, of traditional form with gadrooned rim and detachable friction fitting spout section, gilded interior with integral grille, monogrammed to the body, 9.5cm diameter, 16cm in height, 4ozt

Footnote: Douglas served his apprenticeship and began his silversmithing career in Edinburgh. Between 1795 and 1800 his pieces were marked in Dundee using a slightly different maker’s mark. He became assay master at the Edinburgh Assay Office from 1808-1810.
