Provenance: According to a label to the reverse given by the artist to Thomas Damant Eaton (1800-1871) of Eaton Hall, Norwich, and thence by descent Exhibited: Manchester, Whitworth Art Gallery, Loan exhibition of Norwich School paintings from Norwich Castle to the Whitworth Art Gallery, 1961, No. 34, "A Wayside Copse"
Oil on panel. The paint layer has drying cracks across the surface, which have formed as the paint has dried. The drying cracks have been retouched to tone down the appearance. The paint layer is stable and secure and the panel is in a good condition. There is some wear to the gilding of the frame.
