About this lot

Description

An Edwardian sapphire and diamond triple cluster ring, the three graduating oval facetted sapphires surrounded by thirty five predominantly old cut diamonds, all pavé set to a closed gallery, with engraved shoulders and plain shank, unhallmarked yellow metal indistinctly marked '18', size Q½, total estimated weight of diamonds approximately 0.80ct, cased This ring is probably about a hundred years old, and has perhaps had a busy existance; the sapphires all have some marked abrasion to the facet edges, the two smaller stones have visible inclusions and the largest sapphire has uneven colour with an obvious window - though when the ring is worn, these anomalies show less.  The conjoined border of diamonds has had several replacements with modern stones, and at least one is not a diamond.  The quality of the old diamonds is low - many are heavily included or have major chips, they are not well-matched for size, cut or colour.  Despite the above, this is still a hansome ring, and it sits comfortably on the finger - the low setting of the stones a distinct advantage.
