(h: 16cm w: 3.50cm)

Footnote: Other notes: The term “tortoiseshell” generally refers to material taken from the dorsal carapace of the hawksbill sea turtle (eretmochelys imbricata) and is usually a rich dark brown colour with characteristic colour pigmentation. This example does not show this colour as the material was taken from the ventral carapace of the animal, known as plastron. This material is much thinner and, in order to make it workable, it has to be bonded together until a suitable thickness is achieved. The resulting yellowish to orange colour is behind its old English trade name, 'blond tortoiseshell'.
