by John Grinsell & Sons, London 1897, of rectangular form with gadrooned edge and two dished pen rests, the centre with two silver topped cut glass wells within pinned circular frames on either side of an oval box with piano hinged and monogrammed cover, raised on four ball and claw feet and with personal engraving to the underside, 21 x 14cm, 14.6ozt weighable silver

Footnote: Richard Marsh MVO (1851–1933) was a British trainer of racehorses. After a promising career as a jockey, he became a trainer in 1874 and worked from stables at Egerton House in Newmarket, Suffolk. In a career spanning fifty years, Marsh trained the winners of many major races, including twelve British Classics. His greatest success involved his association with King Edward VII, for whom he trained three winners of The Derby.
