A Tamang wood mask, Trisuli Region, North Western Nepal, probably 19th century or earlier,

of primitive abstract form, pierced eyes and carved teeth, 23cm high

Acquired in February 1991

Representing ancestral spirits and deceased members of the community, the present lot would have been used in dances during seasonal festivities in remote areas of Nepal.
