About this lot

Description

the old round brilliant cut diamond, estimated weight 1.49cts, estimated colour L, estimated clarity VS1, set with a delicate trefoil of beads at each corner of a square mount, to pierced geometric shoulders with millegrain edges and beaded infills, plain shank size Q½, white metal stamped 'Platinum'

Footnote: Assessing the diamond while it is still in its setting presents a number of difficulties. The weight is calculated according to the measurements, but even getting callipers across the diameter is tricky as part of the girdle is obscured by the setting - it appears to be 7.62mm x 7.60mm, with a depth of 4.15mm; the presence of a culet facet and the proportions of crown and pavilion must also be taken into account. Our calculations therefore have a span, from 1.490-1.514cts. Colour and clarity assessments are also hampered by not being able to view the stone from all angles, but the diamond seems to be internally very clean.
